Pho Ever - not bad for being close by
While in a rush to get to a concert Mr. Blue and Ms. Violet had just enough time to stop in for some quick Vietnamese cuisine at a close by restaurant called Pho Ever (4 ever ever?). Pho Ever is a restaurant owned by Koreans that serve both Korean and Vietnamese cuisines. Hungry as we were we decided against fast food restaurants and wanted to dig in to some hearty soupy noodles or some spring roll action.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the servers and seated immediately. As the server was handing us menus we promptly decided to have a vegetable spring roll to share, a dry vermicelli dish for Ms. Violet, and a seafood noodle soup for Mr. Blue. We were also in a rush so we told the server this and they were able to accomodate the request. The food came out lightning fast and straight to our table within 5-7 minutes.
The spring roll is gently held together with a rice wrapper and stuffed full with shredded carrots, vermicelli, lettuce, and cilantro. The roll itself is traditionally not very flavourful as it is supposed to be accompanied by a sauce. In this case, it came with a peanut sauce that was very thick and tasty. We devoured all of the rolls within seconds.
Our main courses came out while we were still finishing our spring rolls, wow, speedy indeed. The vermicelli dish comes with pan fried pork, a deep fried traditional Vietnamese spring roll, carrots, lettuce, cilantro, house broth or sauce, and peanut crumbs to garnish. It was full of flavour and fills the stomach up quick. It wasn't the best vermicelli dish that we've ever had, however, reaches that middle range for sure.
The seafood noodle soup was incredibly tasty. The broth itself is fairly amazing and not only is it rich with flavour but is also thicker than your average broth. The noodles it comes with are filling and cooked to proper al dente with respects to Oriental standards. however, we did wish there were more pieces of seafood in the bowl as there were probably 1 or 2 pieces of octopus, 1 mussel, 1 tiny scallop, 2 prawns, 1 small piece of fish fillet, and 1 small clam. The broth is what makes the dish really in this case.
